Bubble chart examining access to improved water in select countries around the globe

The bubble chart below shows the number of people without access to improved water in select countries. The area of the bubble is proportional to the number of affected people. The x-axis is used to indicate what percent of the population this represents and the y-axis is the 2014 GDP. Note that the y-axis uses a log axis to effectively show the broad range of GDPs.

As you might expect, there seems to be a correlation between the country’s GDP and its ability to provide improved water to its residents.

This bubble chart was built using the Aploris add-in on an Apple MacBook Pro running Office for Mac. The bubble sizes, axes properties, and legend are all easily controlled with the Aploris add-in.
